Habit: Plant generally large. Inflorescence: flowers generally congested on branch tips in dense, +- coiled cymes. Flower: perianth generally 5--8(10) mm, petals acuminate. Fruit: < petals.
Ecology: Drying pools, shores, disturbed ground, generally saline; Elevation: < 2500 m. Bioregional Distribution: NCoR, CaRF, s SNH, GV, CW, SW (exc s ChI); Distribution Outside California: to Wyoming, northern Baja California; native to northern Europe. Fruiting Time: Apr--Aug Note: Taxonomy unclear, relationship to typical Juncus bufonius needs study.
