Venegasia carpesioides DC.
Habit: Shrub 5--15 dm. Stem: generally several, +- puberulent. Leaf: alternate; petiole 1--5 cm; blade 3--15 cm, triangular-ovate, 3-veined from base, acute to acuminate, entire to coarsely toothed, minutely puberulent, resin-dotted abaxially. Inflorescence: heads radiate, 1 or in +- leafy cyme-like clusters; peduncle generally 2--3 cm, slender, bracts 0; involucre 1--3 cm diam, hemispheric; phyllaries unequal, in 3--5 series, 5--14 mm, oblong to widely obovate, obtuse, +- veiny, outer spreading, middle > inner; receptacle flat or rounded, epaleate. Ray Flower: 12--34; ray 15--30 mm, yellow. Disk Flower: 35--150+; corolla 5--6 mm, yellow, tube base glandular; stamen tips triangular; style tips +- obtuse-triangular. Fruit: 2--3 mm, +- cylindric, ribbed, +- curved, dark brown, glabrous; pappus 0. Chromosomes: 2n=38.
Ecology: Canyons, moist, wooded slopes; Elevation: < 1000 m. Bioregional Distribution: CCo, SCoRO, SW; Distribution Outside California: Baja California. Flowering Time: Generally Feb--Jul
