Abies lasiocarpa (Hook.) Nutt. var. lasiocarpa
Stem: trunk < 30 m, < 1.3 m wide; mature crown narrow, steeple-like; bark gray, < 5 cm thick; twig hairy several years; bud resinous. Leaf: < 3 cm, +- flat; adaxially with +- white bands; tip notched or blunt. Seed Cone: < 10 cm; bract included.
Ecology: Subalpine forests, meadows; Elevation: 1700--2100 m. Bioregional Distribution: KR (w Siskiyou Co., 6 populations); Distribution Outside California: to northwestern Canada, in Rocky Mountains to New Mexico.
Unabridged Note: Rocky Mountains material has been recognized elsewhere as Abies bifolia A. Murray bis; study needed.
