Habit: Plant +- gray-green; hairs dense, short, appressed and also longer, spreading. Stem: new rosettes not formed at tips. Leaf: cauline oblong to lanceolate, generally +- pinnately lobed. Fruit: 20--80 mm. Chromosomes: 2n=14.
Ecology: Sandy or gravelly areas, desert scrub to pinyon/juniper or ponderosa-pine woodland; Elevation: 800--2500 m. Bioregional Distribution: SNE, D; Distribution Outside California: +- southwestern United States. Flowering Time: Apr--Jun
