Habit: Open, in mats or tufts (forest, chaparral) or tangled masses (sea cliffs), not woody to occasionally woody at base; hairs +- coarse. Stem: 8--32 cm. Leaf: 6--18 mm, ovate to elliptic, tip obtuse to abruptly acute, not sharp to touch. Flower: glabrous to hairy. Fruit: hairy. Chromosomes: 2n=132.
Ecology: Shady to open places, conifer or mixed forest, chaparral, sea cliffs, hillsides; Elevation: 15--1520 m. Bioregional Distribution: NCoRO, NCoRI, CW. Flowering Time: Mar--Jul
