Vicia lutea L.
Habit: Annual, glabrous or sparsely hairy. Stem: ascending or climbing, 2--6 dm. Leaf: stipules lobed or not; leaflets 8--16, 1--2 cm, oblong or those of uppermost leaves linear, tip rounded or truncate, 1-toothed. Inflorescence: << subtending leaf; flowers 1--3, crowded. Flower: calyx attachment oblique, tube 4--6.5 mm, lobes linear, lower 8--11.5 mm, >> upper; corolla 20--30 mm, yellow, often purple-tinged, banner glabrous. Fruit: 2.5--3.5 cm, 7--14 mm wide, elliptic-oblong; hairs from conspicuous tubercles; stalk-like base 1--2 mm. Chromosomes: 2n=14.
Ecology: Roadsides, disturbed areas; Elevation: < 732 m. Bioregional Distribution: NCo, NCoRO, NCoRI, SnFrB; Distribution Outside California: sporadic to southern United States; native to Europe. Flowering Time: May--Jul
