Vicia cracca L.
Habit: Perennial herb, puberulent. Stem: generally climbing, to 2 m. Leaf: stipules generally entire; leaflets 14--22, 1--2.5 cm, linear to elliptic. Inflorescence: generally > subtending leaf; flowers 15--25, crowded, generally on 1 side of axis. Flower: calyx attachment generally oblique, base +- lopsided-swollen, tube 2--3 mm, lobes lanceolate, tapered to tip, lower 1.3--2.5 mm, > upper; corolla 10--15 mm, generally blue-purple or lavender, occasionally +- white, length when pressed +- 3--3.5 × width. Fruit: 1.5--3 cm, 6--7 mm wide, glabrous; stalk-like base +- 1.5 mm. Chromosomes: 2n=12,14,28.
Ecology: Roadsides, disturbed areas; Elevation: < 1500 m. Bioregional Distribution: NCoRO, ScV, SnFrB, MP; Distribution Outside California: to eastern Canada, northeastern United States; native to Europe. Flowering Time: Apr--Jul
