Veronica scutellata L.
Habit: Perennial herb, rhizomed, +- glabrous. Stem: decumbent to erect, slender, 10--60 cm. Leaf: sessile; 20--40 mm, lance-linear, length generally >> 5 × width, +- entire, often purple-tinged. Inflorescence: racemes axillary, alternate; flowers 5--20; bracts < 1/2 pedicels, linear; pedicels 6--16 mm, spreading at right angles in fruit. Flower: sepals +- 3 mm, +- equal, ovate; corolla 5--7 mm, white or blue, purple-lined. Fruit: 3--4 mm, longer than wide; deeply notched 0.4--1 mm. Seed: +- 1.5 mm, flat. Chromosomes: 2n=18.
Ecology: Wet meadows, ponds; Elevation: < 2300 m. Bioregional Distribution: NCo, NCoRO, CaR, SN, CCo, SnBr, MP; Distribution Outside California: to British Columbia, eastern United States; Europe. Flowering Time: May--Aug
