Trifolium vesiculosum Savi
Habit: Annual, robust, glabrous. Stem: erect to ascending, grooved, 15--60 cm. Leaf: cauline; stipules narrow, awl-shaped; leaflets 1.5--3 cm, generally lanceolate to elliptic, teeth bristle-like. Inflorescence: head, generally above a pair of bract-like leaves, axillary and terminal, 4--6 cm, many-flowered; bracts lanceolate. Flower: calyx 6--7 mm, tube 24-veined, veins connected by lateral veins, lobes straight to curved, inflated in fruit; corolla 12--15 mm, pink to purple. Seed: 2--3. Chromosomes: 2n=16.
Ecology: Disturbed roadsides; Elevation: < 300 m. Bioregional Distribution: NCo, NCoRI, s ScV, CCo, SnFrB; Distribution Outside California: United States; native to Mediterranean. Flowering Time: Jul--Nov Note: Used in hydro-seed mixes.
