Trifolium microcephalum Pursh
Habit: Annual; hairs generally finely wavy. Stem: decumbent to erect. Leaf: cauline; stipules generally +- bristle-tipped; leaflets 0.8--2 cm, generally obovate, tip notched. Inflorescence: head, 7--many-flowered, generally bur-like in fruit; involucre bowl-shaped, lobes +- entire. Flower: calyx 4--6 mm, tube 10-veined, lobes > 1/2 tube, entire, bristle-tipped; corolla 4--7 mm, pink to lavender. Fruit: rupturing corolla. Seed: 1--2. Chromosomes: 2n=16.
Ecology: Streambanks, moist, disturbed areas, roadsides, serpentine, conifer forest; Elevation: 0--2700 m. Bioregional Distribution: NW, SN, GV, SnFrB, SCoRO, SCo, ChI, WTR, SnBr, PR, DMoj; Distribution Outside California: to British Columbia, Idaho, Arizona, Mexico. Flowering Time: Apr--Aug
