Habit: Annual, hairy. Stem: ascending or erect. Leaf: cauline; stipules bristle-tipped; leaflets 1--2.5 cm, obovate. Inflorescence: head, +- 1.5--2 cm wide, many-flowered; sessile above 1--2 +- reduced leaves with involucre-like stipules; bristly in fruit. Flower: calyx 7--9 mm, lobes 4--6 mm, >> tube, subequal, bristle-like, densely plumose; corolla 11--15 mm, generally pink. Seed: 1. Chromosomes: 2n=10.
Ecology: Disturbed areas, roadsides; Elevation: < 2060 m. Bioregional Distribution: CA-FP; Distribution Outside California: sporadic to eastern United States; native to Eurasia, northern Africa. Flowering Time: Apr--May
