Trifolium barbigerum Torr.
Habit: Annual, glabrous or puberulent. Stem: decumbent to erect. Leaf: +- cauline; stipules conspicuous, lanceolate to ovate, lower generally overlapped, upper generally sharply cut; leaflets 1.5--2.5 cm, oblanceolate to obovate, tips occasionally notched. Inflorescence: head, 5--25 mm wide, 5--many-flowered; involucre bowl-shaped, sharply toothed or deeply cut, generally puberulent. Flower: calyx tube 5-veined, generally 2--3 mm, < lobes, lobes simple, entire, terminal bristle 3--4 mm, plumose, or lower lobes divided near base into 2--3 bristles, each 3--4 mm, generally plumose; corolla 5--10 mm, <= (rarely +- >) calyx, pink-purple (white) or 2-colored, lower part of banner inflated in fruit. Fruit: stalk-like base < 1 mm. Seed: 1--2. Chromosomes: 2n=16.
Ecology: Wet meadows, open, disturbed areas; Elevation: generally < 700 m. Bioregional Distribution: NW, n&c SN, GV, CW; Distribution Outside California: Oregon. Flowering Time: Apr--Jun
