Sidalcea keckii Wiggins
Habit: Annual. Stem: 1.5--4 dm, occasionally branched, soft stellate-bristly. Leaf: stipules generally < 10 mm, unlobed; blades below shallowly 7--9-lobed or deeply crenate, above with lobes tapered to base, 2--5-toothed, teeth at tip +- equal. Inflorescence: +- elongate, few-flowered, fruit generally not overlapped; axis stellate-puberulent, also with many soft glandular, multicellular hairs, generally bristly; bracts generally not divided, (3)7--11 mm, generally < calyx. Flower: calyx 8--12 mm, +- divided 4/5 length, lobes lance-linear, generally 6--7-veined, long acuminate, base within with +- purple spot generally 1--2 mm wide, hairs like inflorescence axis; petals 10--20 mm, dark pink, with dark basal spot or not. Fruit: segment 3--4 mm, back net-veined-pitted, generally +- pink, generally glabrous except 1--5 minute bristles on top, beak 0.
Ecology: Grassy slopes; Elevation: 75--650 m. Bioregional Distribution: s NCoRI (Colusa, Napa, Solano, Yolo cos.), c&s SNF (Fresno, Merced, Tulare cos.). Flowering Time: Apr--May Note: Plants in southern NCoRI need study (see note under Sidalcea diploscypha); vulnerable to development, including orchards, housing.
Unabridged Note: Some plants in Colusa, Solano, Yolo cos have divided bracts.
