Sidalcea glaucescens Greene
Habit: Perennial herb 2--5(7) dm, glaucous; taproot thick, woody, caudex branched, rhizome 0. Stem: many, generally decumbent-ascending, generally not rooting, below stellate-puberulent (glabrous), above +- glabrous. Leaf: blade 1.5--4(7) cm wide, glabrous or stellate-puberulent, 1° lobes 5(7), entire; uppermost occasionally linear, unlobed. Inflorescence: open, generally unbranched, +- 1-sided, axis +- curved between flowers, flowers few--15; flowering stalks 3--10 mm. Flower: calyx 6--10 mm, stellate-puberulent, generally larger in fruit; petals 10--20 mm, pink to pink-purple. Fruit: segments 6--8, 3--3.5 mm, +- inflated, deeply pitted, sides, back net-veined, back glandular-puberulent, beak very short. Chromosomes: 2n=40.
Ecology: Dry grassy meadows, open generally red-fir forest, often serpentine; Elevation: (900)1500--3000 m. Bioregional Distribution: KR, CaRH, n&c SNH; Distribution Outside California: Nevada. Flowering Time: Jun--Aug Note: Intergrades with Sidalcea multifida.
Synonyms: Sidalcea montana Congdon
Unabridged Note: In Oregon, confused with Sidalcea elegans, Sidalcea virgata.
