Scutellaria tuberosa Benth.
Habit: Plant < 25 cm, from tubers 5--20 mm. Stem: hairs 1--3 mm, spreading. Leaf: basal petioles 5--20 mm; distal cauline blades ovate, entire to crenate, bases obtuse to rounded, tips rounded. Flower: pedicel 2--4 mm; calyx 4--5.5 mm, ridged; corolla 13--20 mm, violet-blue, lower lip white-patched or -spotted, inner surface glabrous to long-hairy. Fruit: obconic, black.
Ecology: Dry sites, chaparral, oak woodland; Elevation: < 1450 m. Bioregional Distribution: CA-FP (only Sutter Buttes in GV); Distribution Outside California: Oregon, Baja California. Flowering Time: Mar--Jul Note: Common after fires.
