Salvia sonomensis Greene
Habit: Subshrub, prostrate, mat-forming. Stem: < 4 dm. Leaf: generally 3--6 cm, 5--15 mm wide; blade lance-elliptic to obovate, puckered, adaxially minutely hairy, abaxially white, densely recurved-hairy; teeth minute, rounded. Inflorescence: scapose; clusters 1--1.5 cm wide; bracts < 1 cm, lanceolate. Flower: calyx 5--10 mm, upper lip lobes 3, minute, not spine-tipped; corolla tube 5--15 mm, blue to lilac or purple, upper lip 2-lobed, 1--3 mm, lower lip 3--7 mm; stamens, style exserted. Fruit: 2.5 mm, oblong, brown. Chromosomes: 2n=30.
Ecology: Locally common. Chaparral, oak woodland, yellow-pine forest, dry slopes; Elevation: < 2000 m. Bioregional Distribution: KR, NCoR, CaRF, n&c SNF, s SnFrB, SCoR, SCo. Flowering Time: Mar--Jul
