Salvia eremostachya Jeps.
Habit: Shrub, erect, 60--80 cm, finely branched. Leaf: 1.5--3.3 cm; blade linear, puckered, base truncate; teeth minute, rounded. Inflorescence: clusters 1--3 per flower stem; bracts 5--12 mm, lanceolate to ovate, rose to purple, papery. Flower: calyx 6--9 mm, upper lip minutely 3-lobed; corolla tube white to pale lilac, 10--17 mm, upper lip 2-lobed, 1--7 mm, lower lip 4--12 mm; stamens, style exserted. Fruit: 3 mm, yellow-brown. Chromosomes: 2n=30.
Ecology: Dry, rocky, gravelly places, lower pinyon/juniper woodland; Elevation: 450--1400 m. Bioregional Distribution: w edge DSon; Distribution Outside California: northern Baja California. Flowering Time: Mar--May
