Rumex utahensis Rech. f.
Habit: Perennial herb, glabrous; taproot vertical. Stem: ascending or generally erect, 1.5--4(6) dm, with axillary shoots below 1° inflorescence. Leaf: blade 6--15 cm, 2--3 cm wide, linear to lanceolate, base tapered, margin entire, generally flat, tip acute. Inflorescence: axillary, terminal, dense, interrupted below or not, branches generally simple; whorls 10--25-flowered; pedicels 4--7 mm, thread-like, thicker distally, joints swollen or not. Flower: inner perianth lobes 2.5--3 mm, 2.5--3 mm wide, deltate to widely ovate-deltate, base generally +- truncate, margin generally entire, tip acute; tubercles 0. Fruit: 1.8--2 mm, 1--1.3 mm wide, dark red-brown to black. Chromosomes: 2n=40.
Ecology: Wet meadows, river and streambanks, rocky slopes; Elevation: 1000--3500 m. Bioregional Distribution: c&s SNH, expected elsewhere; Distribution Outside California: Oregon to Alberta, Colorado, Nevada. Flowering Time: May--Aug
