Rumex persicarioides L.
Habit: Annual (biennial), generally papillate, hairy; taproot vertical, fusiform. Stem: erect, (0.5)1.5--7(9) dm, branched, slender, or stout, hollow. Leaf: blade 5--25(30) cm, 1.5--5 cm wide, lanceolate to ovate, base truncate or cordate to tapered, margin entire, +- wavy, tip generally acute. Inflorescence: terminal, dense, interrupted below; whorls generally 15--25-flowered; pedicels 3--7 mm, thread-like, +- jointed. Flower: inner perianth lobes 2--2.5 mm, 0.75--1(1.5) mm wide except teeth, narrow-triangular or -kite-shaped, base truncate or widely tapered, margin dentate with teeth 2--3, 1--1.5(1.7) mm, +- = width of lobe, generally on both sides, bristle-like, tip +- acute; tubercles 3, +- equal, oblong-ovate, straw-colored, generally netted, pitted, tip obtuse. Fruit: 0.9--1.5 mm, 0.5--0.8(1) mm wide, brown. Chromosomes: 2n=40.
Ecology: Wet, +- salty places, coastal; Elevation: < 50 m. Bioregional Distribution: NCo, CCo, SCo; Distribution Outside California: to Alaska, eastern North America, South America, Eurasia. Flowering Time: Jun--Aug
