Pyracantha coccinea M. Roem.
Habit: Plant < 6 m, erect, gray-hairy, +- glabrous in age. Leaf: 20--40 mm, generally elliptic, ovate, or lanceolate (to oblanceolate on short-shoots), +- hairy abaxially, glabrous in age, not glaucous, tip acute, teeth small, many. Inflorescence: +- many-flowered, gray-hairy. Fruit: 5--8 mm wide, bright red.
Ecology: Mixed-conifer forest, disturbed ground; Elevation: < 1500 m. Bioregional Distribution: CaRH, expected elsewhere; Distribution Outside California: to British Columbia; Arizona, eastern United States; native to Mediterranean. Flowering Time: Feb--Jun
