Potamogeton diversifolius Raf.
Habit: Perennial herb, delicate. Stem: < 50 cm, branches many, above, cylindric. Leaf: submersed sessile, +- 6 cm, 1--5 mm wide, linear, thin, tip acute, vein 1; stipules sheath-like basally, liguled, < 1 cm, fused to blade base for +- 1/4--1/2 stipule length, or 1--15 mm; floating petiole < 2 × blade, blade 0.5--3 cm, 0.3--0.8 mm wide, elliptic, tapered at base, tapered or rounded at tip. Inflorescence: < 1.5 cm, of 2 kinds; lower submersed, spheric, subsessile, upper emergent, cylindric, long-peduncled. Fruit: 1.1--1.8 mm, +- spheric, compressed; keels 3, middle highest, sides flat to concave.
Ecology: Uncommon. Shallow water, ponds, lakes; Elevation: < 2500 m. Bioregional Distribution: NCoRI, CaRF, n&c SNF, n SNH, GV, SCo, SnJt, MP; Distribution Outside California: to British Columbia, eastern United States, Arizona, Mexico. Flowering Time: Apr--Sep
