Plantago pusilla Nutt.
Habit: Annual; hairs 0 or sparse. Leaf: 1--10 cm, thread-like, generally entire. Inflorescence: 1--many, 2--19 cm including peduncle; spike 0.5--8 cm, slender, +- loose, axis generally at least partially visible between flowers; bract not exserted, +- = calyx, lanceolate. Flower: corolla lobes generally erect, +- 0.5 mm, lanceolate, acute; stamens 2. Seed: 4, 0.7--1.8 mm. Chromosomes: 2n=12.
Ecology: Sandy substrates; Elevation: < 100 m. Bioregional Distribution: SnJV, SCo (San Diego Co.); Distribution Outside California: native to eastern United States. Flowering Time: Apr--May
