Plantago erecta E. Morris
Habit: Annual; hairs scattered, +- silky or long. Leaf: 3--13 cm, thread-like to narrowly oblanceolate, entire or teeth few, small. Inflorescence: 1--many, 3--30 cm including peduncle; spike 0.5--3 cm, head-like to short-cylindric; peduncle not grooved, hairs nearly always ascending, each in diam +- 2 × those on leaves; bract not exserted, generally <= calyx, ovate to round, green midrib generally reaching tip. Flower: abaxial sepals united at base, scarious parts free; corolla lobes spreading or reflexed, 2--2.7 mm, round-ovate, obtuse. Seed: 2, 2--2.5 mm. Chromosomes: 2n=20.
Ecology: Sandy, clay, or serpentine substrates, grassy slopes, flats, open woodland; Elevation: < 700 m. Bioregional Distribution: CA-FP; Distribution Outside California: to Oregon, Baja California. Flowering Time: Mar--May
