Plagiobothrys acanthocarpus (Piper) I.M. Johnst.
Habit: Annual, strigose; +- taprooted. Stem: spreading to erect, 1--4 dm. Leaf: cauline; lower 2--6 cm. Inflorescence: bracts throughout; pedicels 1--2 mm. Flower: calyx 3--6 mm; corolla limb 1--2.5 mm diam, appendages pale yellow. Fruit: nutlet 1--1.8 mm, ovate, dull to shiny; abaxial cross-ribs prominent, irregular-net-like, prickles (0)few--many, slender, barb-tipped, +- in columns, 0 adaxially; scar near base, +- triangular, 25--60% fruit length, deep-concave.
Ecology: Vernal pools, moist clay soil; Elevation: < 700 m. Bioregional Distribution: CaRF, GV, e SnFrB, SCoRO, SCo; Distribution Outside California: Mexico. Flowering Time: Mar--May Note: Intergrades with Plagiobothrys greenei in north.
