Penstemon papillatus J.T. Howell
Habit: Subshrub 20--40 cm, woody-branched proximally; herbage ashy-hairy. Leaf: generally cauline, 25--40 mm, 7--25 mm wide, narrowly elliptic to oblanceolate, generally widest at base, cordate-clasping, entire. Inflorescence: glandular. Flower: calyx 7--12 mm, lobes narrowly lanceolate; corolla 24--30 mm, blue-violet, glandular outside, floor glabrous; anthers sacs 1.7--1.9 mm, dehiscing only at proximal end, inner margins glabrous; staminode pale yellow-hairy.
Ecology: Rocky openings of pinyon/juniper woodland and montane forest communities; Elevation: 2100--2900 m. Bioregional Distribution: c&s SNH, SNE. Flowering Time: Jun--Jul
