Penstemon incertus Brandegee
Habit: Shrub 20--100 cm, rounded; young stems glabrous, glaucous. Leaf: thick; largest leaves at mid stem, 40--70 mm, linear to narrowly lanceolate, generally rolled inward, entire. Inflorescence: glandular. Flower: calyx 4.5--7.3 mm, lobes ovate, glabrous to glandular; corolla 23--32 mm, throat 8--12 mm wide when pressed, violet to purple (limb +- blue), unlined, glandular outside, glabrous inside except small hair patch on floor; anther sacs 1.8--2.4 mm, dehiscing full length, valves barely spreading; staminode included, densely hairy.
Ecology: Generally sandy soil along washes, canyon slopes, in sagebrush scrub, Joshua-tree and pinyon/juniper woodland; Elevation: 900--2300 m. Bioregional Distribution: s SNH, Teh, SnBr, PR, DMoj. Flowering Time: May--Jun
