Oxalis purpurea L.
Habit: Perennial herb; bulbs ovoid, dark brown, gummy. Stem: +- 0. Leaf: < 8, in basal rosette; petiole < 5 cm; leaflets < 4 cm, sparsely hairy or more densely hairy abaxially and on margins, drying with dark spots, streaks. Inflorescence: flowers 1; peduncle 1--11 cm, bracts 2, at or below middle. Flower: sepals < 1 cm, +- lanceolate, hairy; petals < 2.5 cm, purple to red, pink, or white [yellow]. Fruit: 0 in California.
Ecology: Disturbed places, especially near gardens; Elevation: < 160 m. Bioregional Distribution: CCo, SnFrB; Distribution Outside California: native to southern Africa. Flowering Time: Jan--Feb Note: Ornamental, occasionally escaping cultivation.
