Orobanche pinorum Hook.
Habit: Plant 10--30 cm, glandular-puberulent aboveground. Stem: slender distally; base generally enlarged, with many overlapping bracts; root attachment rounded, coral-like. Inflorescence: at first dense, generally becoming open; proximal pedicels 2--6 mm, distal 0, deep purple (golden brown or +- red). Flower: calyx 5--8 mm, lobes 5, +- = tube, triangular-acuminate; corolla 12--20, +- yellow, hairy in a ring at filament bases, lips erect, lobes tinged pale purple (brick-red); anthers glabrous or sparsely hairy; stigma lobes 2, recurved. Chromosomes: 2n=48.
Ecology: Uncommon. Rocky, open forest slopes, on Holodiscus; Elevation: < 2100 m. Bioregional Distribution: NW, CaRH, n SNH, SnFrB; Distribution Outside California: to Washington, Idaho, New Mexico. Flowering Time: Jul--Sep Note: Not known on conifers.
