Orobanche bulbosa Beck
Habit: Plant 8--30 cm, dark +- purple above ground, white-papillate, not glandular. Stem: arising from round, coral-like root attachment, stout, thickened at base, bulb-like, with overlapping scales. Inflorescence: occasionally pyramid-shaped; pedicel < 2(5) cm. Flower: calyx 6--10 mm, tube cut nearly to base on lower side, lobes 5, narrowly triangular, generally <= tube; corolla 10--18 mm, +- yellow to +- purple, lobes 2--4 mm, obtuse to acute; anthers glabrous to sparsely hairy; stigma 2-lobed, margins recurved. Chromosomes: 2n=48.
Ecology: Openings in chaparral, generally on Adenostoma fasciculatum; Elevation: < 1700 m. Bioregional Distribution: s NCoRO, NCoRI, CaR, SN, SnFrB, SCoRO, SW; Distribution Outside California: Baja California. Flowering Time: Apr--Jun
