Opuntia microdasys (Lehm.) Pfeiff.
NATURALIZED
Habit: Shrub. Stem: < 1(2) m, branches sprawling to erect; segments 7--15 cm, flat, elliptic-obovate to round, light green, velvety pubescent. Spines: 0, glochids abundant, yellow or red-brown. Flower: inner perianth yellow; filaments white; style white, stigma green. Fruit: 2--3 cm, red, fleshy, pubescent; areoles 35--60, spines 0, glochids abundant, some to 13 mm. Seed: 2--3 mm, +- flattened. Chromosomes: 2n=22.
Ecology: Desert, chaparral; Elevation: 490 m. Bioregional Distribution: PR (San Diego Co.); Distribution Outside California: Arizona, Mexico. Flowering Time: Mar--Jun
