Neostapfia colusana (Burtt Davy) Burtt Davy
Habit: Annual, cespitose, brown-sticky-glandular with age. Stem: ascending, 1--3 dm. Leaf: collar 0; sheath and blade continuous, base loosely enclosing stem; blade 5--12 mm wide. Inflorescence: 2--8 cm, 8--12 mm wide, spike-like, cylindric, dense; spikelets spirally arranged along axis; axis generally prolonged above spikelets, naked or with small scales. Spikelet: glumes 0; lemma flat, +- fan-shaped, strongly 7--11-veined; florets generally 5, axis breaking between florets; lower lemmas +- 5 mm, +- translucent between veins, finely ciliate; palea +- = lemma; anthers +- 2.5 mm. Fruit: generally 2.5 mm. Chromosomes: 2n=40.
Ecology: Vernal pools; Elevation: < 125 m. Bioregional Distribution: GV (Colusa, Merced, Solano, Stanislaus cos.). Flowering Time: May--Aug Note: Inflorescence resembles miniature ears of corn.
