Nemacladus gracilis Eastw.
Habit: Erect, 2.5--10 cm, branches from base or 0.5--1.2 cm above. Stem: spreading to ascending; base dull red-brown. Leaf: 2.5--8 mm, oblanceolate to oblong or spoon-shaped, irregularly dentate to +- pinnately lobed, hairy, narrowed to wide petiole. Inflorescence: axis straight or weakly zigzag; bracts 2--4 mm, linear-oblong, tips recurved; pedicels (5)10--18 mm, 0.1 mm diam, reflexed, +- S-curved, tip erect. Flower: inverted; hypanthium 0.5 mm; sepals +- 1 mm, narrowly deltate, spreading; corolla not conspicuously 2-lipped, divided 1/3--1/2 to base, white to lavender, lavender-veined, sparsely hairy, tube bell-shaped, lobes spreading; filaments +- 2 mm, tip curved, finely hairy, appendages attached at base, cells slender, pointed, anthers +- 0.5 mm; ovary 1/2-inferior. Fruit: +- 1.5 mm, base acute, tip rounded. Seed: +- 0.5 mm, widely elliptic, with vertical zigzag ridges alternate clearly pitted rows.
Ecology: Rocky slopes, sandy washes; Elevation: < 1900 m. Bioregional Distribution: s SNF (Kern Co.), SnJV (Kern Co.), SCoRI, SCoRO (San Rafael Mtns). Flowering Time: Mar--Apr
