Mentzelia polita A. Nelson
Habit: Perennial herb 12--33 cm. Stem: erect to decumbent, glabrous to puberulent. Leaf: < 7 cm, 2--10 mm wide, linear to narrowly elliptic or oblanceolate, generally entire. Inflorescence: bracts narrowly lanceolate, entire, green. Flower: sepals 5--7 mm; petals 8--14 mm, 2--4 mm wide, +- white to pale-yellow, tip round; stamens 3--10 mm, filaments of 5 outermost 6--10 mm, 1--2.7 mm wide, oblanceolate, tip generally notched, anther attached generally without thread-like stalk; style 5--7 mm. Fruit: erect, 5--9 mm, 5--9 mm wide, cup-shaped. Seed: +- 3 mm, +- 2 mm wide, lenticular, winged, white. Chromosomes: 2n=22.
Ecology: Washes, limestone, +- white gypsum-rich soils; Elevation: 1200--1500 m. Bioregional Distribution: e DMoj (ne Clark Mtn Range); Distribution Outside California: southern Nevada. Flowering Time: May--Jun
