Mentzelia ravenii H.J. Thomps. & J.E. Roberts
Habit: Annual 5--45 cm. Stem: erect, hairy. Leaf: 1--18 cm, lower lobed, upper generally toothed to lobed. Inflorescence: bract generally ovate, toothed to lobed, base +- white. Flower: sepals 2--6 mm; petals 5--11(13) mm, obovate, yellow, base orange; stamens 3--7 mm; style 3.5--8 mm. Fruit: erect to curved < 45°, 8--23 mm, 2--3 mm wide, obconic. Seed: 1--2 mm, irregularly angular, tan, dark-mottled, edges generally acute; seed coat cells generally domed, +- 1/2 tall as wide on seed surface edges in age. Chromosomes: 2n=36.
Ecology: Sandy desert foothills, roadsides, creosote-bush scrub, Joshua-tree woodland; Elevation: < 1200 m. Bioregional Distribution: SnGb, e PR, sw DMoj, w DSon. Flowering Time: Mar--May Note: Intergrades with Mentzelia gracilenta, Mentzelia montana, Mentzelia veatchiana.
