Medicago minima (L.) Bartal.
Habit: Annual, hairs generally dense. Stem: decumbent or ascending, 1--4 dm. Leaf: stipules lanceolate, generally entire to +- dentate; leaflets 4--12 mm, elliptic or obovate, generally dentate near tip. Inflorescence: 3--6-flowered. Flower: calyx 2--2.5 mm; corolla 3--5 mm, yellow. Fruit: generally clustered, coiled 3--4 turns, spheric to short-cylindric; tan to brown, prickles hooked, hairs sparse. Seed: several. Chromosomes: 2n=16.
Ecology: Disturbed areas; Elevation: < 1000 m. Bioregional Distribution: CA-FP; Distribution Outside California: to Oregon, south-central United States; sporadic in eastern United States; native to Mediterranean. Flowering Time: Apr--Jul
