Medicago lupulina L.
Habit: Annual, hairy or glandular-hairy. Stem: prostrate to ascending, generally 1--4 dm, angled. Leaf: stipules entire or toothed; leaflets generally 1--1.5 cm, obovate to oblong. Inflorescence: 10--20-flowered. Flower: calyx 1--1.5 mm; corolla 2--3 mm, yellow. Fruit: 2--2.5 mm, reniform, veins prominent, concentric; black, prickles 0, hairs 0. Seed: 1. Chromosomes: 2n=16,32.
Ecology: Disturbed and agricultural areas, forest, mtns; Elevation: < 2500 m. Bioregional Distribution: CA-FP, GB, DMtns (Panamint Range); Distribution Outside California: most of United States, widespread elsewhere; native to Europe. Flowering Time: Apr--Jul
