Malacothamnus hallii (Eastw.) Kearney
Habit: Plant +- 3 m, spreading, branches stout; hairs sessile, white, densely shaggy-hairy. Leaf: blade <= 7 cm, wider than long, cordate, shallowly 3--5-lobed, hairs adaxially < abaxially; veins +- prominent abaxially. Inflorescence: panicle-like; flowers 3--7 per node; leaf-like bracts 3--4; flowering stalks < 0.5 cm, bractlets 1/2 calyx. Flower: buds rounded; calyx < 1 cm, 0.4 cm wide, lobes awl-shaped to lanceolate; petals < 1.7 cm; filament column 1/2 petals. Fruit: segments (2)3--5 mm, almost as wide, shallowly notched, brown.
Ecology: Open chaparral; Elevation: < 760 m. Bioregional Distribution: NCoRO, NCoRI, SNF, c SNH, SnJV, SnFrB. Flowering Time: May--Jul Note: Sometimes included in Malacothamnus fasciculatus.
