Lomatium ravenii Mathias & Constance
Habit: Plant 0.5--4 dm; base fibrous; taproot ending in deep-seated tuber; herbage +- gray; hairs dense, fine, soft. Stem: 0. Leaf: petiole 2--10 cm, sheathing to middle; blade 4--10 cm, oblong to widely ovate, ternate-pinnately to pinnately dissected, segments 1--4 mm, linear to lanceolate, acute. Inflorescence: densely puberulent; peduncle 0.5--3 dm; bractlets 5--10, 1--5 mm, linear, puberulent to hairy, +- fused basally, involucel 1-sided; rays 3--18, 1--7 cm, unequal, spreading-ascending; pedicels 2--10 mm. Flower: corolla white, occasionally purple-tinged; anthers purple; ovary hairs dense, fine. Fruit: 6--8 mm, ovate to round, soft-hairy to +- glabrous; wings < body in width; oil tubes 1--2 per rib-interval. Chromosomes: 2n=22.
Ecology: Flats, slopes, ridges, generally +- alkaline soils, sagebrush, pinyon/juniper woodland; Elevation: 1000--3000 m. Bioregional Distribution: MP (e Lassen Co.); Distribution Outside California: to Idaho, western Utah. Flowering Time: Apr--Jun Note: Abundant in southeastern Oregon.
