Lomatium howellii (S. Watson) Jeps.
Habit: Plant 1.2--8 dm, glabrous, glaucous; taproot stout, branched. Stem: short to +- 0; base not fibrous. Leaf: petiole 2--20 cm, sheath short; blade 5--15 dm, triangular-ovate, ternate-pinnate to 2-pinnate, leaflets 1--3 cm wide, generally obovate, sharply dentate, generally irregularly cut, occasionally 3-lobed; cauline leaves like basal. Inflorescence: peduncle 1--4 dm; bractlets several, 1--3 mm, thread-like to lanceolate; rays 8--20, 2.5--6.5 cm, spreading; pedicels 5--10 mm. Flower: corolla yellow or +- purple. Fruit: 6--14 mm, widely elliptic to round, glabrous; wings = body in width; oil tubes 2--3 per rib-interval. Chromosomes: 2n=22.
Ecology: Serpentine in chaparral, conifer forest; Elevation: 150--1000 m. Bioregional Distribution: KR (Del Norte, Siskiyou cos.); Distribution Outside California: southwestern Oregon. Flowering Time: May--Jun
