Linaria maroccana Hook. f.
Habit: Annual. Stem: < 50 cm. Leaf: 20--40 mm, linear. Inflorescence: dense, becoming open in fruit, +- glandular-puberulent. Flower: calyx 3--6 mm, lobes lanceolate, pubescent at base and on midrib; corolla 20--38 mm, red-violet to magenta, throat swelling red, yellow, or white; spur generally +- straight; stigma lobes 2, flat. Fruit: 3--5 mm. Seed: +- 1 mm, pyramid-shaped, ridged, black. Chromosomes: 2n=12.
Ecology: Disturbed areas; Elevation: < 830 m. Bioregional Distribution: NCoRO, GV, CW (exc SCoRI), SW (exc ChI, SnJt), w DMoj (Joshua Tree National Park), w DSon (Coachella Valley); Distribution Outside California: native to Mediterranean. Flowering Time: Mar--Jun Note: Garden escape and included in wildflower seed mixes (variably colored).
