Lewisia kelloggii K. Brandegee
Leaf: many, dense-rosetted, 1.5--9 cm, spoon-shaped or obovate, leathery, entire, abruptly narrowed to long petiole, tip obtuse. Inflorescence: stems several, 1--4 cm, 1-flowered; flowers often exserted from leaves; bracts 2, closely subtending, +- like sepals; pedicel 0. Flower: sepals 2 (seemingly 4 from 2 bracts), +- 1/2 × corolla, lance-oblong, margins toothed, glandular or not; petals 5--12, 10--30 mm, obovate, white or pink, tip blunt, +- notched; stamens 8--26; stigmas 3--6. Fruit: 8 mm. Seed: 12--15, 2 mm.
Note: Plants in northern part of California range (e.g., Sierra Co.) larger, with flowers more deeply colored.
Unabridged Note: Plants in Idaho previously referred to Lewisia kelloggii belong instead to Lewisia sacajaweana B.L. Wilson & E. Rey-Vizgirdas.
