Juncus regelii Buchenau
Habit: Perennial herb, occasionally cespitose, 30--60 cm; rhizome stout. Stem: slender, +- flat. Leaf: generally basal; sheath appendages 0 or minute; blade with flat side toward stem, < 3 mm wide, crosswalls 0; cauline leaves 1--3, exceeded by inflorescence. Inflorescence: lowest bract 1--4 cm, papillate; branches few, straight; clusters 1--5, generally 10--30-flowered. Flower: perianth parts 4--6 mm, +- equal, papillate, bristle arising below tip, sepals pointed, petals more rounded; stamens 6, filaments <= anthers. Fruit: +- = perianth, spheric, dark +- purple-brown; beak +- 0.5 mm. Seed: 1.2--1.8 mm; appendages > seed body.
Ecology: Montane meadows; Elevation: 800--1900 m. Bioregional Distribution: KR; Distribution Outside California: to British Columbia, Wyoming, Utah. Fruiting Time: Aug--Sep
