Juncus macrandrus Coville
Habit: Perennial herb, cespitose, 30--50 cm; rhizome creeping. Leaf: generally basal; bases overlapping; sheath appendages 0; blade flat, with edge toward stem, 1.5--3.5 mm wide, crosswalls generally incomplete. Inflorescence: lowest bract << inflorescence; clusters 3--many, 3--5-flowered. Flower: perianth 2.8--4.2 mm, dark purple-brown, occasionally with broad green midvein; stamens 6, filaments << conspicuous anthers; styles 1--1.5 mm; outcrossing. Fruit: body < perianth, widely oblong; beak generally abruptly pointed. Seed: narrowly elliptic, 0.4--0.5 mm, net-veined, appendages small.
Ecology: Wet meadows, creekbanks, in conifer forest; Elevation: 1200--2900 m. Bioregional Distribution: SNH, TR, SnJt, SNE. Fruiting Time: Jul--Oct
