Juncus falcatus E. Mey.
Habit: Perennial herb 3--30 cm; rhizome long, scaly. Leaf: generally basal; sheath appendages 0 or small; flat side of blade toward stem, generally reaching top of inflorescence, stiff, +- curved; cauline leaves 1--2, < basal, stiff. Inflorescence: lowest bract generally > inflorescence; clusters 1--3(5), 5--25-flowered, hemispheric. Flower: perianth parts 3.3--6.4 mm, +- equal, papillate, dark, margins wide, scarious; stamens 6, filaments << anthers. Fruit: < or +- = perianth, +- spheric to longer than wide; tip notched; beak short, obvious. Seed: asymmetric; outer covering loose, white; appendages 0. Chromosomes: 2n=38.
