Juncus duranii Ewan
Habit: Perennial herb, cespitose, 3--20 cm; rhizome vertical. Stem: slender, +- flat. Leaf: generally cauline; sheath appendages prominent, rounded; blade cylindric, generally exceeded by stem, tip long, crosswalls complete but obscure. Inflorescence: lowest bract > inflorescence, narrow, not sheathing, rolled tip > rest of bract blade, generally not present in fruit; cluster generally 1; bractlets awned. Flower: perianth parts generally < 2.8 mm, +- equal, lance-linear, stiff, brown; stamens 6, filaments <= anthers. Fruit: +- = perianth, obovoid. Seed: 0.5 mm, narrowly lanceolate.
Ecology: Creek banks, wet places, in montane conifer forest; Elevation: 1800--2750 m. Bioregional Distribution: SnGb, SnBr, SnJt. Fruiting Time: Aug--Sep Note: Relationship with Juncus mertensianus needs study.
Synonyms: Juncus mertensianus Bong. var. duranii (Ewan) F.J. Herm.
