Juncus dudleyi Wiegand
Habit: Perennial herb, cespitose, 20--84 cm. Leaf: +- basal; sheath margins scarious to thickened; sheath appendages 0.2--0.5 mm, stiff, thick, plastic-like, +- yellow, glossy, rounded; blade with flat side toward stem, generally < 1/12 stem, 1--1.3 mm wide, not stiff, margins generally inrolled. Inflorescence: lowest bracts leaf-like, 1 generally >> inflorescence; branches unequal; flowers 1, generally denser near stem tips; bractlets 2 per flower, blunt to acuminate. Flower: perianth 3.5--5 mm, lanceolate, acuminate, conspicuously spreading in fruit; stamens 6, filaments > anthers; style 0.2--0.3 mm. Fruit: < perianth, widely ovoid, acute or blunt, without strong ridges; chamber 1, partitions incomplete. Seed: 0.4--0.5 mm, oblong; appendages small. Chromosomes: 2n=80.
Ecology: Wet areas in montane conifer forest; Elevation: < 2000 m. Bioregional Distribution: KR, n SNH, MP (exc Wrn); Distribution Outside California: to British Columbia, eastern North America. Fruiting Time: Jul--Aug
