Juncus diffusissimus Buckley
Habit: Perennial herb, cespitose, 20--75 cm. Stem: thin. Leaf: few; sheath appendages +- purple at base; blade cylindric, crosswalls complete. Inflorescence: 10--30 cm; lowest bract inconspicuous; branches spreading; clusters many, 2--5-flowered. Flower: generally not all developing; perianth parts 2.3--3.2 mm, +- equal; stamens 3, filaments generally > anthers. Fruit: generally 2 × perianth, slender, 3-angled. Seed: 0.3--0.4 mm; appendages minute.
Ecology: Pond shores, riverbanks; Elevation: < 100 m. Bioregional Distribution: e ScV; Distribution Outside California: Oregon, Washington; native to central, southeastern United States. Fruiting Time: Jul--Oct
