Juncus confusus Coville
Habit: Perennial herb, cespitose, 30--50 cm. Stem: slender, light green. Leaf: basal; sheath appendages 0.2--1 mm, thin, rounded, +- white; blades with flat side toward stem, +- thread-like, < 2/3 stem, thick, crosswalls 0, margins generally inrolled. Inflorescence: generally compact; lowest bract 2--8 cm; flowers generally clustered, few; bractlets 2 per flower, large, ovate. Flower: perianth parts 2.6--4 mm, +- equal, midvein area straw-colored, flanking lateral stripes dark, margins wide, scarious; stamens 6, filaments > anthers. Fruit: oblong, +- < perianth, ridged, deeply notched; chambers 3. Seed: 0.4--0.5 mm; ends oblique; appendages 0. Chromosomes: 2n=80.
Ecology: Meadows in conifer forest; Elevation: 1200--2000 m. Bioregional Distribution: KR, NCoRI, CaRH, n&c SNH, Wrn; Distribution Outside California: to western Canada, South Dakota, Colorado, New Mexico. Fruiting Time: Jul--Sep
