Iris fernaldii R.C. Foster
Habit: Plant drying gray-green; rhizome 4--7 mm diam. Stem: unbranched, 20--40 cm. Leaf: basal 6--8 mm wide; cauline 1--3, similar to basal. Inflorescence: flowers 2--3; lowest 2 bracts opposite, enclosing perianth tube, outer 6--14 cm, 12--20 mm wide. Flower: perianth yellow, veined darker, tube 35--60 mm, narrow, gradually funnel-shaped distally; sepals 5--7 cm, 7--21 mm wide, elliptic, clawed; petals 4--6 cm, 6--12 mm wide, elliptic; ovary triangular, style branches 30--50 mm, crests 13--17 mm, stigmas triangular. Chromosomes: 2n=40.
Ecology: Common. Shady places; Elevation: 50--2000 m. Bioregional Distribution: s NCoRO, s NCoRI, n CCo, SnFrB. Flowering Time: Apr Note: Some confusion with Iris macrosiphon with cream to gold-yellow perianths.
