Gilia tricolor Benth.
Stem: branches many from base, spreading, 10--38 cm, leafy, glabrous or white-hairy below. Leaf: hairy in axils, on adaxial surfaces; basal in open cluster, 1--2-pinnate-lobed; upper palmate, lobes linear, entire. Inflorescence: glands minute, black, slender-stalked. Flower: calyx 3--7 mm, lobes erect or spreading, wider than membranes, flat, green, acute or acuminate; corolla 7--19 mm, tube included, yellow, throat exserted, widely bell-shaped, yellow or orange with purple spots below lobes, lobes spreading, blue-violet at tip, paler below; stamens attached near corolla sinuses, unequal, exceeded by corolla lobes; stamens, style exserted. Fruit: 3--6 mm, <= calyx, ovoid. Seed: 9--36. Chromosomes: 2n=18.
Note: Subspecies intergrade.
